The Editor's Arena is intended to represent a resource pack for those wishing to contribute to the SVS Leagues Wiki. Until developed, this page will consist merely of some handy hints and preferences.

General Care[edit | edit source]

  • Always check your work with the preview button before saving.
    • That said, remember that an edit can be rolled back. This isn't sudden death.
    • Every time a page is updated, I get told about it. Assuming it's not a flood of updates, I'll check what's happened and adjust the entry where necessary. You can also feel welcome to let me know in-game if you are adding data - draw my attention to it if you wish for direction. Just remember that I'm still conceiving of the best formats as I go.
  • Try to stick to data, information and facts.
    • Please don't tell fibs! What good would this be? There's public, freq, private, squad and specified chat channels within the game for you to get in someone's face. Please don't do it here. (Ok, I tried).
    • If you want to add anything anecdotal and contentious, room can be made for such contributions where it is made clear it is anecdotal and/or contentious.
  • If you add seasonal data to a team's page, note that the relevant league's season page may also need to be updated - and vice versa. Cross-referencing is the primary benefit of this form of documentation, and indeed of the world wide web!
  • When editing, there is a dialog box for adding a summary of your edit. I'd be keen for you to use it. "added rounds 4-6", "changed Thalion to Ferrum" and "typos" are nice, but "confirmed on thiswebsite.com" and "I was on the team at the time" are mighty helpful for validating revisions. Don't be a stranger, either - add your name or handle. Data from Anonymous will likely be deleted. Use three tildes (~) to automatically insert your name (if you are a member of the wiki site).

Listing Formats[edit | edit source]

League Pages[edit | edit source]

League Pages are very simple pages - they consist of links to each season, the champions and the runners-up.

Season Pages[edit | edit source]

Season Pages are more extensive - they can show a list of competing teams, results (split into regular season, standings & play-offs).

  • Competing teams - can include those which do not play a full season, but be sure to note this when it is the case.
  • Results
    • Regular Season - each match result, separated round by round.
    • Standings - where known, a ladder of standings after regular season is very informative.
    • Play-Offs - All qualifying, elimination, semi- and championship finals. Referrals of teams to other divisions, relegations and promotions can all be shown here.

Team Pages[edit | edit source]

Team Pages repeat a lot of data from Season Pages - they show a summary, achievements, and then a season-by-season results section.

  • Summary - currently a standard three-liner which includes references to associated teams.
  • Achievements - a simple show of instances a team was champions and runners-up
  • Results - Seasonal info (league, position/success and a line for rostered players)

Player Pages[edit | edit source]

Player pages are currently very simple.

  • A dossier section is included only when there's data - details of debut date, zone recruited from, and simple descriptive anecotes.
  • The Achievements section is not really in use yet, but is intended to summarise championships won, and possibly captaincy history.
  • The Roster History consists of a single line for each season played, for each team played
    • Multiple teams in one season get a line each.
    • Ha the player disappeared for a while? a "..." can highlight that there was a break.
    • If the player changes the case of his name commonly (eg: POLLUTANT, Pollutant, pOllutaNt) one is used, but redirect pages are created for the others.
    • If the player has been rostered under multiple different names, but it is clear they are same player (eg: BARBARIAN, MVPARIAN), the redirecting page should include the Players category so that both will appear in the index. The Roster History should show that the player played (as playername).
    • However if the player was aliased but it is not readily clear (if in any way not obvious), it is intended that the names be linked only if that player gives the ok. Otherwise they should be listed as though they are not at all connected.

Additional Info[edit | edit source]

  • The NavBox is recommended for every page to enable the browser quick access to flit about the site.
  • Every page should fall into at least one category. Leagues, Seasons, Teams & Players are the main ones. Sometimes Groups will also apply. Examine existing pages for the format.
  • If in any doubt, open an existing page in a new tab (ctrl-right click, open in new tab), and consult it's format.

Working Files[edit | edit source]

Data not yet placed due to varying circumstances (unsufficient information, time constraints, etc) can be placed in working files for later integration. If you are in doubt, it may be best to add your contribution to this page in a new paragraph and allow others to work it into the wiki.

EDITING FOR THE FIRST TIME? DON'T FORGET TO ADD REASONING FOR YOUR EDIT IN THE SUMMARY BOX. ALSO REMEMBER THAT ALMOST EVERYTHING IS CROSS-REFERENCED - IF YOU ADD A PLAYER TO A TEAM PAGE, ADD THE TEAM TO THE PLAYER PAGE. Refer Editor's Arena for more info.
