History[edit | edit source]

History of Brothers In Arms from 1997 to 2000

BIA was created in Running Zone, February 1997 by Jinxi. Some mixed RZ players joined the newbie squad with hopes of getting some decent freqs.. Around the first few weeks Jinxi put BIA on the Pro league waiting list, and eventually BIA made pro, taking the spot of Punishers (Summer 97). The first day Pro-BIA originals were Jinxi, Ante Portas, 3d man (Tempter), Tom Collins, Klyss and Shadowfox.

Later on elmo, Hostility (life), Alucard , Ob$cure, Grand Elf, XRaven, Corporate, Epinephrine, SKITCHIT!!!, trustmaster, 2dope (Malign), Zei, Epimetheus, NINball, A Pun (Death Fang), Clocker, Raperamix, Prime Time (Emissary), 0nethervoid, Stiggy, Enchanted Soul, Ridge Runner, Wreath, Leg Chewer (Fwiffo), Baudchaser, Indra, Drake, Orange, jaakko, Heat, Supremacist, Bone, Becoming, D-Tox, and others have been on the squad. Current members can be checked {here} A Quick Roundup our performance in Pro League:

First season, our debut one. We performed adequately. We took down Conclusive and some other squads, losing to Requiem 'only' by 2 (6-8), this game establishing BIA reputation as a promising squad. BIA and Requiem have been semi-friendly rivals ever since season 1 -- the season both squads started, [albeit BIA as a shadow team, since we got in mid-season]

Second season went a lot better as the team had gotten more experience. Our only losses were to Redemption (Season 2 SSbowl) and Requiem.

Season 3 we were 9-2 (+68), with losses to ONE (1-3 OT) and Requiem (4-5 OT). Stiggy rose to the allstar cast with his near perfect 25:2 performance (quite rare in those days/now). The Happy Beta days were over, SS servers were going down and after the long break that Pro took, we got eliminated in playoffs by RaDaR (6-7 OT) in a poor showing. However, Subspace didn't go away, and we got back to the game, stronger than ever.

Season 4 - Our 'Golden Season'. We had a whopping scored/allowed of +82 (122-40), the best of season 4. Both of our losses were to one of the Finalists of the season, Quest (in regular season we choked 1-8, in the Semi's we lost back to back, 3-4 OT, 4-5 OT -- The latter game involved some hardcore controversy: OT, score is 4-4, BIA with a 4 on 3 Advantage (Bhang got eliminated) UnderAchiever's weasel ended the OT by plowing/ignoring Jinxi's TWO repels & killing him (read the log for spec commentary after the incident.) On a side note, during regular season we beat Presence -the to be champions of season 4- 12-1. Also, Jinxi & Indra established rather positive records during regular season: 23:3 & 20:1)

Season 5 - Entry of the Jersey Banners. We beat WoT (the infamous Kalisten match, read the log! Later on we played a tie game vs Requiem: 3-3 (the first TIE game ever in the history of Pro League), then losing to ONE in playoffs in yet another controversial & appealed (denied) loss.

Season 6 - Our worst season ever. We barely made playoffs! We lost to Devil (5-11), intelli (0-2), Assassins (3-9) and Redshift (2-4). Jinxi's and Shuko's military services started mid-season, hindering organization and leadership. BIAs teamwork was just not clicking. We got a glimpse of what was lost only in playoffs' round 1. We got our revenge over Assassins, stampeding over them with a fairly dominating 12-1 win. We couldn't hold that form though, and come round two, we got beaten by Legends 5-8 in a good fight..

Season 7 - BIA took a break from Pro. Jinxi, Stiggy, Malefactor, Kattster and Rukee joined ONE, Supremacist restarted Journey, Bone & Epinephrine joined QC, Orcrist joined Unhallowed, while jaakko and Heat rejoined EGO.. Other players faded out/focused on other interests (e.g. Nme went aliased & undeground to AM and dominated :))

Season 8 - Our return from the interval of inactivity/rest. The regular season was a disappointment: easy games + two no-shows. We won 7 games out of 8 (lost to QC) & went into the playoffs with some motivational problems. In our first round's playoff game we spanked Allah's somewhat (formerly) successful turret in overtime, winning 2-1 in a bore of a game. Come round two, we faced Betrayl. They gave us a good fight, but we pulled off a 6-4 win, in regular time. In the semi's we went up against Final. We got outplayed (arguably because of flawed subbing tactics) & lost 10-3 to the would be Champs of Season 8.

My goal as a captain has been to build a squad that is filled with enjoyable personalities who share things in common; a facility for subspace for an example. BIA has received some critique because of the size of its roster. I don't see why people object to having a large pool if pilots to play with. Games take up only a small amount of the time most BIA pilots spend on SS related activities. Practices and other 'stuff' take up the rest. It's convenient and practical to have the possibility of playing with people you like, regardless of time/date. BIA doesn't really have to schedule squad pracs :P

We've had quite a few notorious duelers on squad, most notably (in alphabetical order) Indra, Jinxi, Legacy, Raperamix, SKITCHIT!!! and Stiggy. Once upon a time there were 5 BIA members in Tyrsis's dueling ladder Top 10. Jinxi, Raperamix and Stiggy peaked at #2. We've performed well in dueling tournaments (Kboom's tournament, Conan Tourneys, Garcon's $100 tourney, and several iNET tourneys.) as well..
