Play-Offs[edit | edit source]

It's not entirely clear at this point how the play-offs structure for this season was arrived at. Match-ups are described in more detail within each round.

Play-Offs - October 6, 2002 :
Teams enjoying 1st and 2nd position enjoyed a break, teams #3 thru #6 matched up with a second chance, and teams #7 thru #10 played single elimination play-offs.
Old Glory 11 def Sin 4
BALLISTICS 12 def Watchmen 5
Nightwatch 6 def Iron 4
\Redshift/ 10 def Secret 5
Eliminated - Iron and Secret

Play-Offs - October 13, 2002 :
The winners of the second-chance play-offs from last round met the rested top teams bearing second-chance tokens, while the losers of those matches played the winners of last round's single-elimination games, again in elimination matches.
Symphony 12 def BALLISTICS 2
Blackdragon 4 def Old Glory 3
Nightwatch 11 def Sin 6
\Redshift/ 12 def Watchmen 6
Eliminated - Sin and Watchmen

Play-Offs - October 20, 2002 :
The above approach was repeated, as the 2 winners from lower down the table met the losers from above them. Instead of enjoying another rest, the top winners met in what proved to be a Finals match.
Blackdragon 2 def Symphony 1[1]
Nightwatch 12 def BALLISTICS 9
\Redshift/ 12 def Old Glory 7
Eliminated - BALLISTICS and Old Glory

Semi-Final Qualifier - October 27, 2002 :
Third place met fourth in order to win the right to challenge the loser of "Finals Match 1".
Nightwatch 12 def \Redshift/ 3

Semi-Final - November 2, 2002 :
Had Symphony lost the following game, it is likely that the Finals would have restarted as a best-of-three.
Symphony 8 def Nightwatch 5

Finals - November 9, 2002 :
Note that a match played earlier in the play-offs was counted as Game 1.[1]
Game 2 - Symphony 8 def Blackdragon 5
Game 3 - Blackdragon 12 def Symphony 4

Notes[edit source]

  1. 1.0 1.1 For some incomprehensible reason this match counted as Game 1 of Finals best-of-3. It is discussed in the match log to Finals Game 3 where it was stated "jimgasm> bd has to win one and symph win 2 to win the championship anyways".
