World Subspace League
World Subspace League (WSL) was a rebranded continuation of the first iteration of Amateur League.
AML began in January 1997 as a pyramid schedule competition in tandem with the Pro League pyramid competition of the time. AML proceeded into a scheduled/fixtured format - again, in synchronicity with Pro League - for two seasons, before moves were made to substantially alter its format, thus giving rise to the World Subspace League.
World Subspace League ran for just the one season in 1998. A second season was aborted before commencement, and WSL technically was absorbed into a merger with another league[1]) to form United League.
The instances of Amateur League in this case are distinct from the later and more established Amateur League that still operates today (as at March 2015).

Notes[edit source]
- ↑ It is not certain which league merged with WSL, but it is quite possible it was the very short-term aborted attempt to reform Amateur League which occurred in October 1998. While never coming into operation, this truncated venture did seem to exist, thus it could be said that three distinct and separate competitions all used the name Amateur League at different times.
